3 reasons
I don't want to become an old man with a big pot belly and a shrivelled up penis who walks around saying, "I'm too old for that."
I want to feel good about myself because I am accomplishing something that people see and are impressed by.
Fitness and nutrition are very interesting to me.

Ditto Varbo. Well said my friend.
Personally, I was one of those skinny kids in grade school and high school who got made fun of on several occasions. Not cool so I started working out. Then I must admit that I started getting looks from girls. I also started loving the control I had over making myself look more muscular. I remember going to the health food store in the 70's with my mom and seeing pics of Arnold and Franco on some of the supps. That was so cool! I wanted to be like them! So when I started working out in HS, I guess I loved the fact that I could look like (an really skinny version of) Arnold and Franco!
Now I have added the competition aspect to my drive. Competing is nothing I thought I would ever do but now that I have done one, I can't wait to hit a couple more next spring.

Because; I do believe your kids pay attention and I want to set a good example....
I do believe you can age gracefully....
I do believe getting an approving glance from a woman 20 years younger than you is hot....
I don't believe that being a successful Chef has to turn you into Chef Boyardee (the little round guy)

Well I have only been lifting for a couple of months now, but i already feel better about myself. I was in decent shape when I was 19 until I broke my arm and then I went back to my doughy self. I don't like the person I am mentally or physically when I am overweight. The sex is better, and overall life is better. At 26 years old I have no real reason other than laziness to not be in the best shape of my life. So here we go again, 6 pack is coming back.

So that I can be a lean and mean sex/love machine!
With all seriousness, I've barely worked out in the last couple of months. Gained like 10lbs of weight, and apparently they are all in my gut. Anyways, I originally started to work out so that I could look like Hulk Hogan (seriously, I shit you not), plus to increase my cardio (as a way to fight asthma.)
Later in life I tried to use weight training to complement training on grappling, then I became obsessed with squatting and dead lifting.
Now I'm training, whenever I can, just to get rid of the gut. My little nephew asked me if I was going to have a baby (just as my wife did). That's not a good sign, you know

I don't want to be a fat old guy in the future. Plus I'd rather be addicted to working out than drugs or alcohol, now if I could get my sweet tooth undercontrol I'd be doing real good.
