I want to get into the fitness industry really bad, I love it, I would love to compete or get into fitness modeling, any pointers on where to start for the modeling part would be great. Currently I am getting ready for some photos... exciting!

I found that most of the opportunities offered me were in Malibu or Florida, there are tons of shoots going on out there and models to do it, if you cannot travel then I would contact local stores and manufaturers with catalogues and see if you can apply for their next job......if you are not that advanced then you need to get a portfolio going, lots of varied photos so you can show your stuff to potential clients. An agent is hard to find and to be honest I have only been paid a few times for this, most times they offer time for print, time for clothes.........
YOu canalso submit shots to less popular magazines and see if they will use you. I am used but I write for them too and am not paid for that or my photos.
Oxygen, wel it seems they prefer steriod gals and surgery boobed gals........
I would find a back up career and do this on the side.
Competing gave me an upper hand so you may want to enter a few contest to 'be seen'.
If you are looking for diet and training help to get a fitness body then check out my online buff camp at www.fitnessteambc.com. Next on begins in a few days.

Hey thanks for the reply! I totally agree about doing this on the side... as of now I am heading towards a degree in Exercise science, and from there I plan to get my masters in Sports Nutrition. I think having a fitness (modeling) background will help my career though, clients and all. I do plan to be in California one day, I am in Texas now looking for good photographers, Im pretty much in the dark with this one... im looking into a few places though... in the meantime eating clean and training hard!

Default Training for first Figure Competition?

Hi, I'm new here but I love that I found this site. I've always had a dream to compete in a Figure Competition and now I'm actually ready to start training for it. What I really need help in is proper Contest Dieting and supplementation? No one at my gym is knowledgeable about this or is willing to help. There are a couple of contests I have in mind toward the end of spring 2006. Can someone help me with the eating portion? One trainer told me to implement Creatine to assist in lifting heavier. But how long do I take it for and how long of a break in between. I look forward to sharing and learning on this Forum. I do keep a workout journal and eating journal. I eat pretty clean and consume 1200-1300 calories a day. I've started adding even more protein to my diet.

5'6
120 lbs.
14% BF

Supplements taking now:
Glutamine
Pyruvate
CLA
Flax Seed Oil
Daily Vitamin

Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Donna

Diet and supplementation is very specific to each person so you won't find anything specific but in general diet will periodize and change each month up to contest so it depends on how many months out you are, what level you are now physique wise and your goal.
There are not a lot of resources yet, but I am working on a Figure Manual, I only have a Fitness one now and I do have a online camp of gals who get diets and training twice per month to follow but otherwise it is tough to get any specifics.
Generally I can say that you want to work with food more than supplments. I personally do not believe it using too much or fat burners.
Glutamine, creatine and protein powder are the basics. The oil is also perfect and the vit. Creatine I take most of the year and cycle off it occasionally, I load up then take it daily 5 days per week, weekends off cuz I blow my diet then but during onseaon I take it daily after a workout in my shake.
YOu want to eat 6+ times per day, 2-3 hours between each meal. Depending on your dietary preferences you want to use fish, chicken, dry cottage cheese and protein powder for your protein in each meal, about a gram per lb per day divided up per meal which for you would probably be 20-40 grams per shot again depending on your stats.
eggs and oatmeal are excellent for first meal. Lots of leafy greens, broccoli, orange vegges but these will be limited during the last month of contest, lean down is specific too and chances are no one will really give you something that fits, you have to work that through trial and error.
If you are bulking then you need more calories. All depends on contest timing.

I hope my answer above helps you out!
Linda
ps, I would be happy to help you with diet and training if you like, start a thread regarding your diet and training logged for a few daysa and let me know what your short term goals are such as leaning or bulking and when your contest so I can be accurate because diet changes from 4 months out to 1 month out, it can vary and you also grade this as you go along so you look at yourself 2 months out and will tweak the diet according to your needs then, you do not want to peak too early and also Figure can vary, there is various styles, to read about that go to www.fitnessteambc.com and click on figure to read the various types of figure that exsist so you know which suits you to enter.

More power to you girls. I just don't have the patients for all the high maintence stuff it takes for figure competions. I compete in running races and triathlons though. I worry more about getting the most calories in the smallest amounts when I compete. Good luck girls.

Default good info

Great info as im imbarking upon my first competition. I have been working on this for a while now but diet is tricky as I learned that last year. I was 5 weeks out and a lady told me that i lost down when in fact i needed to be in the muscle building mode. My thought was, i have a lot of weight to lose and i want to be sure that i lose it.
I eat the same way the whole time too, this time I will make sure i do my calorie/weight thing. make sure im consuming the right amount of calories for my weight.
Sheeesh! Taboo is 5/6 @120lbs with 14%body fat?
im 5/6 and was at 14% when i weighed 139????????/ Hmmmmmm
Making me wander how much i would have to lose to get to 10% I havent seen 120 in yrs!! I think that would be 10% for me, I do have long legs tho.

Its hard to nail down the right balance but your trials and errors will help greatly.
You are welcome to start a thread in the Fitness/Figure area called your journal and post all your diet and training to show and I can help or try creating a blog, they are free here on the site.
Things do have to progress and taper right with diet and training......periodized to suit you.

Hey Y'all....I'm looking for advice on where to purchase the swimwear for a figure competition. Seeing as I will most likely have to order it , what are some of the things I need to know or should be telling the company that I am ordering from. Any referrals to sites for the swimwear and shoes would be greatly appreciated. Actually any info/advice regarding diet, training, posing and prep for figure competitions would be fantastic! My stats are: 5'11", 160lbs, 36DD-25-35, not sure on bodyfat as I haven't had it calibrated yet and just started my 12-weeks out pre-contest diet yesterday! I'm so excited!!! Loving this site....so nice to know there are a bunch of us out there to swap info. I come from a fairly small town where fitness/figure is not that popular. And can anyone tell me how to post my pic on this site in my profile....I'm not the best when it comes to computers. Cheers and good luck ladies!
