Hey,

My wife is trying to get rid of that small pooch from having our daughter. She is running on the treadmill, working her abs out everyday and eating healthy, but she just can't seem to get rid of it. Are there any suggestions about a certain workout routine, diet, or supplements she needs to do.

I appreciate any help!

Thanks
Logan

Being a guy, but not a father, I don't have much experience in the area. If the pooch refuses to move, though, it may be b/c the abdominals can separate during pregnancy - surgery is needed to sew them back together.

Of course, she just may need to work on diet/exercise (I'd stay away from supplements if breast feeding).

hi my friend! is it a little fat or loose skin?

I havent had a bub but my old trainer lady had!

If it is the abs separation thingy have a look at this article http://www.mommymuscleblog.com/2005/...sis_do_yo.html

it might help you get some info

also read this
"it is good to eat healthy but crazy dieting will not produce enough energy for your body to supply your newborn with milk as well as function as a new mother. If you have spoken with your doctor and have been given the green light to start working out it is important to only do so when you have the energy to, when you factor in waking up 3-4 times every night to take care of your new baby energy is a precious commodity to come by. The first three months of motherhood should really be devoted to eating healthy and getting enough nutrition to cope with the lack of sleep and stresses that come with motherhood. You will often lose weight while breast feeding because this is a true labor for your body to produce and express milk."

another thing is it take 6-12 month to get your body back after bubby, if she's trying to get a 6 pack back then it might even take longer!

Read this article it will help ya understand all that

interesting reading I was thinking it might just be loose skin from being so stretched...kinda like after someone heavy loses a lot of weight suddenly, like liposuction...

It's a little loose skin and some of it is excess fat. She just wants to get it gone. Surgery would be the last option, but she has considered it.

BTW....gymgirl...if thats you in the pic...thats how she wants her stomach to look.

*laughs* man that would be so awesome! no need for years of blood sweat and tears (mainly tears :P) just shine a light on your tummy!!!!

hehehe

Thanks Logan for saying i have a nice tummy! To be honest, back when i had no idea there were figure-shaped ladies out there, I decided I was tired of having a boring tummy and wanted a 6 pack, and thats what started my whole training everything! but i started as a thin athletic person and its taken me almost a year and a half to get the ab definition I have. And a year and a half isnt even that long in the big scheme of things, especially considering I still have a long way to go!!

I guess what I'm trying to say it its going to take a while. One of the most annoying things about all of this fitness stuff is that it all takes persistence and time, which is one of the main reason its so hard. From what you said in your PM, your wife seems to be eating really well! Which is awesome. If we wanted to tweak the diet anymore then I'd need you to be a little more specific so we can work out her calories in versus out but considering she's eating so clean im sure its not a problem We can do that in a PM if she's worried about everyone knowing her everythings

as for the loose skin, that usually goes back by itself over time. The poor buggar just got stretched a million miles long! Tell her to give herself a break :P If you go to the chemist and explain the situation they can give you oils and stuff to bring back the eloasticity faster. That and rubbing oil on yourself is nice

How often does she do the cardio? And how hard does she do it? The fat loss is going to be all about the calories in versus out which is diet and cardio and muscle mass, but like we mentioned before she cant push herself, and doing it too fast just means it wont stay off anyway! But we can work out ways to make all the things she is trying work a bit more efficiently

As for ab workouts, a very important thing to remember is to not over work them! When you desperately want abs (like me :P) its easy to obsess and do nothing but abs, but just like everything else they need their rest time. So if you're doing a sit up, and you feel the burn straight away cause they're still sore from before then it might be time to rest up

I do 2 days a week of abs! 1 weighted and one non weighted in 30 minute bits with little to no rest between. Well a little more on weighted day :P

Non weighted: Grab a bench! for some reason (i think cause you have to stabalize?) doing abs on a bench works better and i think might be how come my obliques are prominent. On the bench i get a medicine ball and do this:

10 x leg raises
10 x knee raises
10 x bring the ball from over your head over your knees crunch thingies (haha im so good with names :P)
10 x put the ball between your legs and alternate elbows touching the ball (also works out the inside leg muscle which is hawt :P)
10 x pulse crunch thingies with the ball still there
10 x bicycle kicks
10 x hanging leg raises

repeat until you die

Its a lot, and it hurts :P constantly changing the ab thingy you do stops it from being boring and the fact that theres only 10 each helps push you to finish each mini-set

On weighted abs day i have 10 kg leg weights, lie on the floor and do leg raises with them. oh the pain but lower abs are so hard to see!!
i also hook my legs to cable machine and do knee raises that way
and that thing with cables where you pull down on the rope on your knees and crunch.... cant remember what thats called :P
I also do 3 sets of failure on the decline bench holding a dumbell. Its hard not to cheat and use your legs but if you can concertrate on the crunch it leaves you sore for years

I'll have to find you a link

Another thing i do which i think really really helps is tense them. Always tense them through cardio and any weight training. I got no idea why that helps but i got my biggest improvements from that! Flexing them afterwards helps too

Flexing everything all the time always helps though :P hehehehheh

I hope that helps a little! if you need me to be more specific on anything let me know!

also, tell her not to rush or she will not get the elasticity back, slow fat loss after baby is best.
Udos oil helps, you eat it in diet while eliminating other fats and limiting carbs.

well all i can state is my ex-wife now, we had purchesed several items such as palmers cocoa butter stetch mark formula lotion and she ate good no junk food as much as possible and got plenty of exercise and walking throughout here pregnantcy and to tell you the truth from the way i saw her stomach stretch i thought here days of 2 pieced bikinis were long gone! but we (she) mustve did things right. she astounded me by being almost flat stomached after childbirth! i just couldnt get over how some women can do something like that! she had 3 little tiny stretch marks and continued with the cocoa butter lotion for several months while she walked, ran, and worked out untill she was happy with her looks again. so i know it can be done.
