Face-Skin Care
Hello!
So I'm thinking it might be time I started looking after my face. I dont usually wear make up, but now I have to for these photos and stuff I'm doing, and so I'm thinking it might be time to start looking after my face-skin
What does clensing toning and moisturising do? do I have to? :P what do those mud mask things do? and eye cream? and how often do you guys use this stuff? Should i be exfoliating my face?
Or are we all tom-boys here?

Hey GG, You are never too young to start taking care of your skin. Your skin type will pretty much dictate what kind of routine would be ideal for you. I believe everyone should definitely wash before going to bed at night 9removing ALL traces of makeup). If you have somewhat oily skin, then a benzoyl treatment could benefit your skin. A toner brings your PH back into balance and a moisterizer (re)hydrates your skin. Again, you can find a system (cleanser/toner/moisterizer) which compliments your skin type.
Exfoliating the skin removes dead skin cels and helps shrink pore size, temporarily. Some people do a mild exfoliation (like with a washcloth) everytime they cleanse. I personally think that a bit too harsh. A mud mask, or one which suits yer skin type, once a week should be enough for a deeper exfoliation. You may even want to consider a mask with other beneficial additives (like a green tea extract).
If you use just one addtional product, let it be the eye cream (and use it faithfully day and night). The delicate undereye are is where ALL skin types show age initially.
I've always been a tom boy, too, but there is absolutely no reason not to avail yourself of the beneficial compounds available. I go to one of the pre-eminent dermatologists in the states and he's recommended this line: NeoStrata - Leaders in AHA Skin Care. He has a kit in there somewhere which includes cleanser (very, very mild) eye cream, moisterizer, and even a body cream...all for under 100.00 US. I love it, I used to use the proactiv line but in my case the toner was way too harsh.

Thanks BB! You're the best for helping me!!
I got an exfoliator and toner and aloe vera moisturiser. I didnt get the eye cream because it was a tube the size of my finger for $25!!!!
I might need an oil free moisturizer though, I guess I'll wait and see!
I got a green tea mask too, but i havent tried that yet!
Thanks for the link as well! this looks awesome!
NeoStrata - Bionic Eye Cream

got me on this one.....I did learn about make up and started using face crap, but I just used some bath and body works stuff, I liked the tomato scrub, pumpkin mask and I like their simplicity rice face wash/cream..........but I am not consistent.
Did you get my email, I finally got to the sites, and your pics and my questions, suggestions, and gave you some homework......

Question on the same subject:
After I workout, that's when my pores are the most open, right? And because there's sweat (and probably dirt) on my face then as well, wouldnt it be really important for me to wash my face well right after working out? I always shower when I get home, but sometimes I grab food on the way home and chill out for a bit eating it before I'm home, and by that time all the sweat is pretty much dry.
... is this bad?

Hello Dance4Fun,
Here's the cool thing about sweat, THAT, and sebum form what's known as the skin's 'acid mantle'. The acid mantle kills bacteria which attacks the skin. If this layer is removed through abrasive cleansers it's much easier for bacteria to make their way into the epidermis and cause deeper structural damages.
So, my suggestion is to gently wash the dirt off with a few splashes of roomish temperature water. I seriously don't believe you need anymore than that after a workout. The key is PH balance and avoiding inflammation caused by too many acidy cleansers, etc.

I agree with bluebird....personally I am a minimalist when it comes to 'skin care' and have always been told I've got great skin.......blot off excess sweat, don't wipe. It's the actual wiping of sweat that can cause infection in the pores/follicles and cause minor outbreaks.
Personally I use Olay facial wipes as a cleanser to wash of makeup/dirt......only fancy moisturizer I use on my face is made by neutrogena and was recommended by my dermatologist for a skin condition I had in the past, because of it's sunscreen content.
As b.b said......less is MORE, lol!
