Default Bum wrist

I hurt my wrist 2 weeks before I did a powerlifting competition in December and it still hurts! I want to do another one in May so I hope it heals in enough time to train for it. *sigh* Just feeling sorry for myself.

Ice it, ice it, ice it. Ice the living crap out of it and make sure you do not lose the normal range of motion. That is, firmly but carefully begin to stretch your wrist flexors and extensors as well as radial stretching. When I broke my right hand I made the horrible mistake of not icying immediately. Unchecked inflammation makes matters worse, much much more, specially if gone unchecked for the first 48 hours.

What I did was that every time I got in the car, I would take an ice pack with me, wrap it on my wrist with a hand towel and keep it there for 10+/- minutes at a time, with little breaks in between and trying to go for about half an hour of icying. If I was on my way to work, this I would do. Then I would put the ice pack in a fridge in the office, to repeat the same during lunch break and on my way back. And then again at night. So I was pretty much doing that 4-5 times a day for several weeks until the pain was almost gone.

Then I would use sports tape and tape the living shit out of it. The wrist, the thumb and the hand itself. Then I would put a glove on, and then I would work out, avoiding any form of pressing. To this day I still have problems, not with bench pressing, but with push ups, for which I use handles or on my knuckles on a padded surface.

My PCP told me that there was nothing that could be done, and that it would be a deteriorating injury (the one I had). But I have, more or less, put it under control like that. And at the slightest sign of pain I ice it again.

So don't let that injury go unchecked and ice it, ice it hard and often. You'll get ice burn, but that's a small price to pay

Good luck.

After a month, I'd kind of doubt that you've still got enough swelling that icing it will work wonders. Therapeautically, I'd contrast ice and heat to promote more bloodflow (and healing), but stuff takes time to heal.

No I love it!!
I keep thinking it will just heal on it's own. I wrap my wrists when I do anything that bothers it. I think I just need to back off the heavier weights for a while and not aggravating it.

I would definately look at options such as physio, deep tissue massage to remove scar tissue, and also do a search on wrist rehab and elbow rehab, there are several exercises you can do to help speed up the healing. Also glutamine and any of the joint supplements, combos are good, glucosamine, msm, chondrointing, curcumin etc.
Way to go! I have a good friend who used to be womens gold medal powerlifter for Canada and she was a doll, ever heard of Mariam Power?

I have not heard of her. I just recently tried pl. It was a raw meet so we just got to use a belt and wraps. I did search her, wow! Strong and beautiful!!

I'm going to search wrist rehab, I also think I need to lighten up the weights.

I saw a doc yesterday about something unrelated to my wrist but I mentioned it. She didn't think it should be still hurting and urged me to see the ortho. I don't think it's that big of a deal but I have an appointment for next Wednesday. Well see how it goes.
