6-Pak Girl's Figure Competitions 2008
I've decided to do two Figure Competitions in March. The first one is March 15 here in my hometown, San Diego. The second one is March 29 in Anaheim. It's been a year since I've competed so I'm very excited to begin a program again.
I spoke with my trainer today. He's putting together a workout and nutrition and supplement program for me. I lean down VERY fast so he said we're going to take me down s-l-o-w-l-y this time around. He's hoping I can put on 1 to 3 pounds of lean muscle at the same time. Should be interesting.
Anyway, I'll get my program next week and I'll start after Christmas (with a cheat day already written in for New Year's Eve).
I'm so glad I have something to work toward again!! I'll post pictures when I start.

Sorry I've been gone so long. My husband got strep throat the week before Christmas. He was super ill. Then my son came down with a virus. Between taking care of them, handling all the household stuff and Christmas prep by myself as well as working I didn't get to the gym for a week! I'm back on track now. Working out as hard as hell and really focusing on my nutrition piece. I'm feeling great and I can tell even in just a week of eating squeaky clean and every 2 - 3 hours my metabolism is picking up again. It's already fast so I'll have to watch out that it doesn't go crazy cuz then I lean down too fast.
I have a couple of photos to post - me at the start of this competition prep. I don't know how to post them in this journal so I'll post them in my blog in the blog section.

Another great week!
I just finished another great week of workouts and pre-competition dieting. Everything is going well. It's only been a couple weeks of hard work and I'm already filling out a bit and cleaning up.
I met with my trainer/nutritionist today and he said I'm ahead of schedule (darn it - that's what happened last time and I came in too lean). So I'm upping my food intake a little as I find I'm really hungry between my afternoon snacks and before dinner.
I'm taking the weekend off of training to rest and grow some muscle!
Peace out for now!

Upping the cardio just a tad
So ... I'm 9 weeks out from competition. Things are going well. I'm maintaining my weight while dropping fat so that's good. I'm going to increase my cardio by 5 minutes each time to keep things humming along.
The super setting I'm doing now is definitely working. I'm super setting the same body part with 2 different exercises and then resting 90 sec between sets. It's pretty intense AND I like it cuz I've never trained quite this way before.
Going to a football party tomorrow. I'll have to bring my own food and drink with me. That's okay though cuz the people at this party are all either trainers, married to trainers or into fitness and just plain "get it." It's hard to go to parties where people don't get it at all. I have to sneak out to my car to eat so I don't have to explain myself over and over. That won't happen tomorrow. I can just bring out my food and feel comfortable eating stuff that's different from the party food.
Well, gotta go eat (seems that's all I do nowadays - eat!)

So, here's a new picture - after 4 weeks of the new workout and 3 weeks of the new nutrition plan. I'm seeing little differences in size and in cleanness so all is well that way.
I'm pushing hard and staying super strict on my food - no cheats at all. I did start to include a fat burner at noon as my energy level was beginning to really sag in the afternoon. It's helped.
The only problem I have now is that sometimes after sitting for a long period of time I'm black out a bit when I stand. That's never happened before. Not sure what I'm missing in my diet to cause that. Other than that, it's going great!

Hey, 6-Pak Girl!
You’re making excellent progress, B. Size along with definition. You look like you’ll be ready by March. Hope the shoulder’s back to 100%. The lagging energy levels and blacking out on more than one occasion sounds worrisome. If this continues to persist, you may wish to consult a medical professional.
Take care and keep it clean.

Congrats on the progress and sticking to your guns. When you say "Blacking out" is that the feeling of light headedness or dizziness? If so, that means normally that you would have a low blood sugar level or something related to blood flow in general. It could also be stress related.
Keep up the good work.

Just checkin' in. I'm doing great. I'm not having the feeling of light headedness any more. It might've been the fat burners or perhaps stress (which I'm under a lot of with work) but whatever it was, it seems to be gone.
I'm at 12% body fat. My goal is 9% and I have a little over 6 weeks to get there so it shouldn't be a problem. I won't go lower than 9% because I start to get way too shredded and lose my muscle.
I'm doing 35 min of cardio 6 days per week and lifting 5 days per week. I've put on 3 pounds of muscle so I'm way happy about that. I'm starting to get hungry about 1 1/2 hours after I eat so I think that means I'm about to grow more muscle!! Time to eat a little more. Yippee!!

Keep it up! I had a similar experience with fat burners where I nearly passed out. I ended up going to the emergency room because I did not make the connection and was worried that I had something else wrong with me. Lesson learned

Six weeks out and you’re getting closer to your goals with each day, B. It’s not too far now.
Glad to hear that the light-headedness is gone but watch out for too much stress, it’s toxic.
And 3 pounds of muscle with more on the way…Linda is going to be so proud of you.
Take good care of yourself, B, have a good weekend
and keep your eye on the prize.

Needing encouragement
So, I'm feeling a bit blue today. I think I'm tired and I'm definitely hungry. Or maybe I'm not that hungry but I'm feeling deprived. I'd love a glass of wine and a handful of chips or crackers - something with salt!
Currently, I'm lifting 5 days a week (although the 5th day is shoulders only so it's not bad at all) and I'm doing cardio 6 days per week. I'm way stressed out at work so I'm sure that doesn't help.
My trainer just upped my cardio from 35 min @ 6 days to 40 min @ 6 days. Since I really don't like cardio, I'm not liking him too much right now.
He's also lowering my fat intake a little. (
I totally trust that he knows what he's doing AND I'm still bummed cause I have just a little under 5 weeks to go and it's starting to get tough.
Okay, I just re-read what I wrote and I can tell I'm whining. Oh well, it's my journal so I can whine if I want too!
I will say that I think I'm looking good and I'm not coming in too fast this time around. I can see muscle gains and I love seeing the cut come in as I lose fat so all that's very good. I guess I'm just at that point where it's close enough that I'm getting a little anxious and yet it's far enough away that I still have a lot of focusing to do re diet and workout.
I guess I'll go drink a Crystal Light. At least I have lots of flavors to choose from, even if it isn't wine!

Sing along now..."It's my journal and I'll whine if I want to, whine if I want to, WHINE IF I WANT TO!!!!"
Seriously, I think you'll feel great when you are standing on that stage receiving your trophy! Keep your focus on that moment and you'll pull through those tough moments (OK hours, days... )
Here's something to think about...
To think is easy. To act is hard. But the hardest thing in the world is to act in accordance with your thinking.
