Hey GG - girl, you're doing it!!!! I'm so excited for you. I just got caught up on your journal. I'm a little late to the parade, but I wanted to share that I'm "little" too and I only do minimal cardio through contest prep. I start with 30 min 4 or 5 days/week and might up it to 40 min for a couple weeks, but by the time I'm 2 to 4 weeks out I'm down to 20 minutes per day, 5 days per week. Plus I start at about 1,400 calories at 12 weeks out and am at 2000 to 2200 cals by the time of show. It's crazy, but it's true. My metabolism starts crankin' like mad and I have to eat, eat, eat and sloooowww down the cardio or I'll come in too hard.
I think this is what I love about competing - add protein, reduce carbs, include fat, up cardio, lessen cardio, sups for this, sups for that. Every week it's something different that needs to be done to make the mix just right. I feel like a science project! )

Hello everyone!
Wow 6-pack, seriously?!? I had no idea everyone reacts THATdifferently to eating and exercise!
I guess it really comes down to the individual hey?
I emailed ya the pics Linda, I still feel really way fat, and I for some reason seem to be really thick side on, I dont know if it's because as my bum goes away it's just straight down? I dunno maybe I should arch more.
I feel a bit more nervous now I lost that week and cause I didnt think of the vitamins etc I got the cold thats going round :\ It's not a bad one, I can easilly work out through it, but it sucks to be snotting while you're running!
On a positive note though I havent strayed from my diet at all except for that planned cheat which I didnt need. I have said I can have another on in 3 weeks time if I need it, but I really dont care about food, it might just be the cold though.
I'm also getting better at cardio faster than I ever could have imagined! I've been running in the evenings (except I did go a bit easy when my cold was the worst!) but now I'm running between 12kph and 8kph and try to do them both for 5 mins each. While watching Dark Angel. hehehhe
I tried Raijs workout on Monday, the chest one, and I'm SO sore now, and I fell on my face trying to do the pushups almost instantly! haha. I skipped in between the super/tri sets and was really struggling to hit those 15 reps by the end of the first round! It was awesome!
I had today as my 'moderate cardio slash rest day' today because of the whole being sick thing. I'm gonna dose myself up and go hard on back tomorrow. I cant wait!
I also called the INBA Perth people and they are holding a posing seminar and seemed reeaaaaly nice and helpful and gentle because I said it was my first time. And it was a lady! Best ever! haha
Hopefully they start this Sunday!
The lady sent me the Entry form and I filled it in and sent it back straight away! that should mean I get to stand front row centre! and I've already paid for it so I'm locked in!!
ok! that's aboot all for now!
It's funny though, the thing that worries me the most is that this isnt as torturous as last time, I feel like I should be in more pain, and it should be harder to eat right and train hard. I hope I'm doing everything right!

Sounds like you're kicking some serious butt GG. Awesome!
While I can't add much of anything to the cutting advice (there is a reason I have never posted any pics of myself ) , I'll just stand back and read along as Toonces and Linda and Lizzy and 6-Pak and the rest help you.
But I am following you and cheering for you and I will be 1000000% supportive and send you lots of encouragment.
... and hugs...

That sounds like a good problem to have! It sounds like you're doing what you need to do in order to get into crazy amazing lean shape.
I'm willing to bet that the posing class will be helpful as well. Some of your concerns may be greatly alleviated just by knowing how to display better. If nothing else, the class should help instill some confidence that the judges and audience will pick-up on.
Oh, and props for using 'snot' as a verb.

You're looking good GG! I'd say your abs are pretty tight already. Good definition in the side triceps shot too. See it in your tris and delts? Your back has good taper and your legs have good size (in a good way). Something about your side poses needs tweaking. Linda can give advice here. I think your chest might need to be out further. I think you'll be quite lean by October if you keep with your program. I would hit shoulders extra, extra hard as getting a good cap to them will enhance your taper even more. Looking great overall though!

Thanks everyone! Wil you are the bestest!!!!!
Hey A1, oh yeah your right, that was my biggest problem last time wasnt it you're so awesome for remembering!
tidal, I'm glad you appreciated the snotting!! hehehe
Thanks Lizzy! I told Linda I'd do whatever she says, and I saluted too so that should help! heheh but honestly, I trust her I'll do whatever she says. I'm surprised she still has faith in me after all those previous failures!
thanks Toonces! I'll upload the pics for yall to see what he's talking about soon ok? I know, I've been trying to get my shoulders to grow forever, I always go really hard at them but they're just like calves... STUPID. hehe
I was comparing my recent front double bi with the ones I did for Linda last year and I think my legs have halved in size, (i'll show ya pics), but it seems to look better because my calves looked so pin-like in comparison with the bigger leg, now it's smaller it seems to fit with it a bit better. Still I'm sad I lost so much muscle! - but so weird I weigh exactly the same!!
2008
2009
so yeah! a bit sad! but I think I'm thinner too, so it's hard to compare on the rest of the things seeing as the lighting etc is different too

Yeah, different lighting and different suits. But I don't think you're that much different. Look at each muscle group and you'll see what I mean.

Yeah what he said.
Also, it could just be how you hold our arms up, but your lats seem a tiny bit wider this year.
I will continue to carefully examine these pictures and advise of my findings.

hehe thanks guys! you are the sweetest!
Well I still went to work and the gym with the cold and it came back and kicked me in the guts! I slept the whole day yesterday! but I definitely needed it! I feel much better already!
I really didnt want to eat, and I couldn't force in the chicken and tuna but I knew lying around healing all day was probably going to eat into some muscle so I go some 60% protein bars that were about 200 cals each and ate one at 12 and one at about 3. MUCH better than real food. Why cant I just live on them? haha!
The waters going down real easy, I usually get through 2L by 2:00pm which is awesome. My meals are still getting me really full and I'm not hungry by the next meal, which is bad because it's all starting to taste so blah! hehe (already!)
I might go brown pasta instead of brown rice next week and see if that helps at all I'll check up the nutrients before I do of course!
Raijins thing has been kicking my ass and Linda gave me some things to do for training too so by combining two I should be able to create the ultimate machine! haha ^_^
Hopefully I'm well enough to gym it tonight! I cant wait to do these Arnie Shoulder Presses!

Arnie presses rock... best shoulder ex in my opinion....
Glad to hear it is kicking your ass, that was the general idea...
What do you think of the prog so far? Are you doing the intervals in between? Let me know whats working for you/not working for you and I can tweak it...

Everything is working awesomely at the moment. I'm having to drop the weights by the last ones though but it's been hard to tell how much my stoopid cold is affecting me too. I've either skipping, treadmilling or doing that thing where you step up and down on a step in between. The only time I've been taking rests between is when doochbags steal my machine and I have to find another one, or someones decided to put 40000000000000000000 weights on it and just left it there. stuff like that :P but I try not to stop at all! I'm always really out of breath it's kick ass.
Since I started doing them I've been able to run longer/better in the stand alone cardio in the evenings too.
I love it! it's easier to push yourself cause its cool and new and you dont get a chance to get bored!
It's the best ever! I love it HEAPS! Thank you
I realize I said I was doing shrugs before and you changed it for me to rows, but I meant to say rows in the first place! I'm glad you know what you're talking about at least! haha!
ooh ooh, wait one more thing, it's also really awesome because after you have a kick ass workout you're really inspired to eat right and drink right to get the most benefit out of the training session. So it's really helping the entire prepping process!
I'll post progress pics so you can see your hard work!

Well today in a deperato attempt to make up for my couple of days off due to the snifflies, I tried to fit in legs and shoulders day together! hehe
I ended up having to get rid of the interval bits all together from the leg ones, I was dying without doing any cardio. I even had to get saved by those bars on the squat rack! you know the ones? I'm so short though when I do a low squat it practically touches them anyway but I went down low and then went SPLAT on the butt! hehehe
I also tried those lunge things on that half bally thing. Bosu? I think? THEY WERE SO HARD! ahhhh
by the last set (which I was going "RAAAAAAAAAAAJIN why is there MOOOORE!?!?") it was all unweighted and so I was going "phew!" but in actual fact, it was probably the most painful part of the whole day! single leg hamstring curls on the ball and non weighted single leg calf raise. At one point I was telling my calves to 'come on' cause I didnt understand why when it felt like I was pointing my toe like a ballerina I was only one trillionth of an inch off the ground! haha
Quick break and then I got into shoulders (yeah, I hadnt done them yet... I was that knackered just from the leg with without the intervals!)
Shoulders went really well though, so painful, I love the Arnie things a lot. I did the full cardio between these ones but my legs were screaming. With shoulder pump on though it looked so awesome which helped me press ever onward! haha I almost lost my lunch once there, not that I'd eaten any yet. I still cant do any weight on the stoopid military press, and I seem to get stuck on 8 reps every time. But it's a lot easier to press on when you know you cant let your heart rate slide.
Speaking of heart rates, wow that Bosu thingy really gets it up there! how does it do that! I'd love an explanation!
So anyway, after the last 60 seconds of cardio I rested on my knees for a little while then went home to eat.
I had my fish with the last of my brown rice today! it turned itself into a mini risotto thing and was delicious!
I tweaked my diet a bit, I took the Fruit out and added in the peanut butter and I also added in the sodium of everything. I'm not sure how much I'm supposed to be taking in right now but at least I know what to not eat when I have to cut it out. I also have changes brown rice to brown pasta, they are so similar in nutritional content I dont think it will make a difference to anything but my tongue tasting something a bit different. I wanna scrap the Quinoa too, I find that meal really hard to force in, but if I do it might ruin my arvo meals so I dont know. Best to let well alone maybe. At least for the next few weeks.
I've been reading article upon article about peaking, it sounds like it ranges so much. I guess I'm just going to have to do a generic peaking trial. No wonder people get addicted to this sport with so much trial and error, if I did decide to never do this again I'd always be all "I wonder what I'd turn out like if I'd..." you know what I mean? I can definately see how you'd want to keep doing it again, but next time better! hehe Not that I will feel that way, I've never been there or anything, just saying I could understand.
I became possessed by demons yesterday, I had to work late and something went *twang* NEED CAAARBBS and my eyes went red and I opened my mouth and lazer beams came out! So I had a chicken and veggies wrap rather than just on their own, I figured it was just me saying I needed more carbs but then I read that once you lose some fat your body starts upping the hunger cravings in order to save itself or something, so maybe I should have ignored it?
I tried to make a countdown ticker, but my signature keeps telling me off for having too many characters, so that's dumb! I'll have to find some other sorta countdowner.
So I've read that a lot of people have weekly carb-ups (or cheats or whatever) I'm 11 weeks out today so I think I'll have one this one, one in two weeks, one in three weeks and then none til carb-up/peak time. Unless there's a reason that cheatings actually beneficial in ways other than stopping you from turning into a psycho.
I'll keep reading!
So much to learn!
P.S Raijin, my ass hurts, you're the best.
P.P.S. I have gone from 50.9kgs to 48.9kgs in two weeks! It's all coming off the waist back and bottom! From directly behind my legs are wider than my butt! It's awesome! I love it! I'm going to go have a photoshoot and just make her take a thousand photos of my bottom. "And whatabout a pic of my bum? We could do this pose where it shows off my bum? Hey I know a good one! You could take a shot of my bum!!!"

Geez, you seem really committed to this... that is good. I have a feeling you are going to do well in that competition, assuming you maintain this attitude.

The unilateral bodyweight stuff is pretty easy in and of itself... but not so much after doing the first couple of series in this workout, as you discovered...

Good on you for your dedication, I know you wanted to make up for the sick days. But don't let this become a habit... (2 resistance WOs in one day, that is)

Basically, its a VERY compound exercise, utilizing pretty much all of the muscles in the lower body and core. If you do it right, you will feel the burn in the quads most, but there is so much more going on. Leg stuff tends to gas you more anyways (because they are larger muscle groups, and thus require more oxygen)... Notice how when you do an isolation execise like a bicep conc curl (that requires almost no aerobic/oxygen), this doesn't happen.
Again, I leave the diet/supp advice to those more qualified than myself...

eerrmm... this could be taken several different ways...

Cool. The cardio stuff will continue to get your ass smaller from the side, while the lunge/squat stuff makes it stick out more in the back, which you will want for the comp. If you are not getting the results you wanted in this area, throw on some ankle weights for those lunge/glute kicks...

GG, i am confused about the egg whites at your first meal. Over 130 gm of protein in one meal? Why so much? How many egg whites is that? One egg white has only about 3 g of protein so I am wondering where you are getting your numbers. Just soooo confused....help me!

haha woops! Looks like you found a mistake, nice QAing! ! I dont think it's possible to have 130gm of protein in a 120gm serving of eggwhites! haha I'll have to re calculate but I think it will end up being around 13g, I think the extra decimal place is a typo! That'll change my percentages up a little!
