Seriously, stay off them for a week or two. Is it helping anything to know your weight? The answer is NO! So why bother? Go by APPEARANCE!!!!

Hey Raij and everyone! you know how you said I'd need to increase my cals cause your workout is pretty damn-tootin' core? well now I'm getting into it and I've added 30 mins of cardio afterwards I'm starting to get really hungry! Linda says being hungry is bad, so should I add more food in? and if so, how many cals should I add without being counterproductive?

I assume if my burning amount is 1500, and I aim to eat that exactly, then I will only be calorie deficit by whatever exercise I do. So If I'm doing your thing and 30 mins of cardio, and we assume that my heart rate stays up the whole time, that'd be about 600 - 750 cals? plus the classes in the evening would burn another 450, which means I should be pretty safe eating up to 1500 cals - I'm at 1200 atm and walking becomes tough by the end of the week.

What do you think?

my diets at like 70% protein, so I could probably stand to add some carbs to get me through the workout, I know the '8 week out' mark is usually the point at which you change something, but maybe with me, more food and more excercise is the way to go? then we could always cut back on the food slowly, but I feel really good eating more and excercising harder, and that's gotta be healthier too I'm sure?

Or should I be expecting the energy drop at this point?

I'm not stressing, just looking for advice

I'm all che sera sera about it!

Hey Geeg - I just read the last several entries of your journal and saw your pics. First of all, girl, you look amazing! I mean it. Second, if the scale doesn't move and yet you become leaner, that's EXACTLY what you want. It means you're losing fat and gaining muscle. And, girl, you don't have alot of fat to lose so my hope is that the scale stays the same. You still have quite a bit of time to go and if you're anything like me, all of a sudden your metabolism will speed up and you'll get hungry and MUST eat or you'll start dropping weight and that won't be good. Isn't this fun?! )

Thanks 6 pack!!! !!! Awesome awesome awesome!! I'm doing good!!! !! hehe yaaay!

alright good! I will add some carbs into the third meal too, I'm so glad all that's normal because I am becoming sooo hungry and tired! I'm excited to see what happens this week with my bod! !!!

Toonces, I'm eating about 27g of fat, about 11% of my intake is fat, I'm getting it from almonds, fish, prawns, chicken etc! I think that's a good amount from what I've read? (read ready red rooster - uh wait thats probably an Australianism too)

Is dying in the ass an Australianism? You guys can totally tell me if I ever say things that dont make any sense!

Thanks guys you're the best!

Whew... finally getting a chance to respond to this, although at this point it may be kind of redunant...

The scale stuff... Ditch the scale. You mentioned looking like Jessica Alba a couple of weeks ago. Not that you need to look like her, but consider (from your perspective) if you looked like her, would you care if the scale read 500 lbs? Probably not.

Ok, as for the caloric stuff I will try to bust out some serious math here. I forget the exact number, but a caloric deficit of around 3500? calories equals 1 lb of fat loss. Given the ample time you have till the comp (7 weeks), if you only had a caloric deficit of 200 or so cals a day you would lose 9800 cals or roughly 3 lbs of fat in that time.

Seems simple enough, but the rub is that a caloric deficit will take away from your muscle as well as your fat stores, so this is where the proper distribution of prot/carbs/fat comes in. Right now you say your protein is 70, your fat is about 10, which leaves 20 for carbs. Your fat intake seems about right, actually its seems really good since its lots of unsaturated fats (mmmm prawns!).

But 70 on the protein seems a bit excessive to me, rather than 70P/20C/10F I would shoot for more of a 60P/30C/10F distribution. The extra carbs will give you a little more energy, and keep you from being a grumpy GG. I suck at gauging from pics, but i will assume you are in the 110-120lb range. For muscle maintenence and gain you should aim for 1.5-2 grams protein per lb of bodyweight per day. We will lean more towards the '2' since its a competition scenario. So basically you are looking at 230G of prot per day, and since 1G or prot = 4 cals that comes to 920 cals from prot per day, or 61% of your 1500 cal goal.

I welcome comments/input on this from more current competitors/bodybuilders, because the nutritional/supplement aspect of fitness was never my forte.

And GG, feel free to explain the 'australianisms' to me... I plan to visit there one day, and it would prolly help...

I agree with your math, raijin. GG, you could add in the extra cals from cutting back on protein as a few more GOOD carbs or simply add some UDO's oil in for extra energy.

And Sarth Ifrickun? And New Zealand - doh! cant write in their accent. Fush and Chups bro. there we go :P

what did the Kiwi say to the Jew? "He Brew!" hehehe and you thought it was going to be racist! SIF!

Anyway, the addage of cals didnt kick in for a bit, Saturday I was sooo knackered and then something happened in the world of personal which kinda punched me in the guts, and I think cause I was so exhausted it hit me a lot harder than it normally would have, so I stayed in bed all day on Sunday and sulked and didnt eat... nice one chump.

Anyway, so this week my metabolsim is slow and I'm not hungry, I'm still a little bummed too so I'm finding it hard to push it in the gym. I'm thinking I might change it up a little and do cardio in the morning and resistance in the arvos, I keep thinking "be emo laaaaater" and after reading what poor Lindas going through, I feel like a bit of a dooch, she's so amazing!

Oh well, time to push it behind me! just a few more weeks to go and I dont really wanna muff it. I'm pretty sure 8 weeks is the bit you stop being lenient with yourself. I hope I did have an extra week up my sleeve.

The weird thing is, after all that sulking and lying around, I'm pretty sure the back of my legs are getting harder! perhaps they needed a day off from cardio anyway

ohaiyooooooo!

I smashed my finger with a weight!! I fink I'm gunna lose the nail!

it huded tooo much to lift, so I tried to do cardio but the faster my heart rate got the more often it throbbed (duh) so I couldnt work out that day. I also found a hardly calorie yummy thing to add to my food which just happened to be full of sodium (duh - why am I doing all these dumb things?) and so I look terrible today! But then again, much better than I've ever looked before, but still terrible? I think my brain is broken

I read a cool blog last night, the lady was really excited after having competed and came in a lot softer than everyone else, but she didnt seem to care about how she compared with the others, it was awesome to read she also said she wished she realized sticking to the diet 100% was the key earlier, so I'm going to do that too! No nibbles of wasabi peas here and there or extra almonds etc

hopefully then I start to make some progress! if not who the hell cares hey? hehe

The head screw of the week is: What if I feel like I didnt work hard enough, so the day will come and I will still dismiss myself as less than women that compete.

I dont know how I could do that to everyone that's supporting me, but my head is trying to kill me from within!

owww my fingy!!! I did legs today and strapped the finger up, it seemed to be fine cardio tonight and I might sauna to get rid of the salt so I feel better tomorrow, I'm gonna stay away from it, it messes with my head. 7 weeks to go

xxxxx

You know what Geeg? When I was prepping for that first show, I really didn't think at all about my competition. I couldn't care less who I would stand next to on the stage. I was purely focused on coming in as good as I could be. Just keep the course! You are already in better shape than some of the comp will be (but don't even think about them). HAVE FUN! DO YOUR BEST! STAY THE COURSE!

Hello!

I just dropped in cause I'm nackered and wanted to put of practicing the routine for a bit :P hehe

So I went to a posing seminar again on Sunday. SO much fun! Theres this one girl there (whos name's Zena) who is SO hilarious, we were practicing a pose down and she was pretending to elbow and kick everyone and then doing these poses in front of them, I was too busy laughing to pose :P Then I saw Ms Fitness Australia (woo) to help me with my routine, she came up with some awesome ideas! and I get to keep my hat spinny! I'll practice it up good and film it for you guys!

I'm getting soooo tired, but the whole '6 weeks' mark has given me new inspiration - its cool I've managed to be inspired by something every week :P Its not even 6 weeks for a couple of days but I like saying 6 weeks.... OK!!?!??! hehehe

ok ok 6 weeks and 3 days!

Hello!

Posting again already!

I wish I had some time to measure myself so I could tell you my progress :P I also have some aaaaaaaaaaaaawesome awesome photos for you! I should quit my job so I can take 10 trillion photos, SO stoked with the bod at the mo!

Today I did shoulders, and it seriously was SO painful, it felt like they were going to pop, I've never felt pump like that before! I wouldnt be surprized if I got shoulder stretchmarks! haha I'm getting a pump up tube on the weekend so I can practice pumping up before the progress pics.

I've been sticking crazilly to the diet, and it feels like that was the key to progress, there are new bumps coming up everywhere and thought I still have a huge chunk to lose off my legs you can see daily progress. Its getting real easy to tell the difference between water fat and muscle now too, somehow... is my skin getting thinner? haha

I'm so exhausted, jumped on the cardio after an abs 'break' (as in I kept failing after 2 reps :P) and got on the cross trainer... on level 1 - it hurt my legs too much to not use my arms, but I could hardly lift my arms to help! so I hunched over the screeny thing and just pushed my burny legs as much as I could. I've started taking 'fat burners' now just for the caffeine to keep me energized!

I'm also usually captain freezing. I have a heater under my desk at work cause I'm always so cold in the normal air conditioning, but over the last couple of weeks I have been a big bag of heat! I couldn't find and googlemation but I wonder if that's got something to do with the speeding of ones metabolism?

Hey does anyone know at which point you should cut out creatine? Not that I'm taking it, but just wonderin' - I did try that NO Shotgun sample and that was creatine, so I just want to make sure I dont try some weird sample of something that's going to make me hold more water than I wanna.

Also, so I be trying to have sodium now? I know it will make me hold water, but does it mean that I will let go of the water later when I deplete it? or is that an old wives tale? there are so many conflicting suggestions on the interweb!

GG, definitely no creatine...makes you hold water. As for the sodium, I didn't start sodium loading until a couple of weeks before the show. Then I cut out all sodium the last 48 or 72 hours. You'll have to drink like 6 liters or so each day (water) when you are on that much sodium. But you should already be drinking nearly that much anyway

I'm stoked that you are getting excited about your progress

Your metabolism could be speeding up. With a higher % of lean muscle mass, you are generating lots of heat. Are you getting some good vascularity? Also, which fat burner are you taking?

Keep rocking my Aussie friend!!!

These things are the fat burners: Naturopathica FatBlaster MAX Weight Loss Supplement Reviews Australia www.naturopathica.com.au I'm just taking two mid morning at work once I start to tire out

ok! no creatine at all! got it thanks Tooncey! I was wondering about the wateryness, the girl are telling me it's like 5litres 4 litres 3 litres 2 lites 1litre then none on the day, but it seems silly to ween off it like that, would you drink 3 days of 5 litres and then nothing so your bod is expecting crap loads of water and doesnt hold any? I dont know, that would seem logical?

Yes! I am Veins fest! It looks awesome all the way up to my biceps! hehe and I have them on where my legs join my torso, and I think that about it for now. So many veins I didnt even know existed! hehe

They are right about tapering the water the last few days. Day of, only sips of water. You should DEFINITELY get some Pedialyte and carry it with you the day of the show. You'll NEED this if you start experiencing symptoms of cramping. Pedialyte

IDK if you can buy it in Australia, but you'll need something. You should be able to get it or a comparable brand in the baby section of a grocery store. It has fluids and electrolytes. Way better than water or gatorade if you start dehydrating. Cramps, nausea, weird heart beat, feeling like you're gonna faint, etc can all be signs of dehydration. VERY SERIOUS CONDITION if you don't start to rehydrate. I didn't have problems, but the minute I stepped off stage, i drank an entire liter of it and then 3 more liters of water over the next few hours!
