With this comprehensive resource for fueling active bodies, Carmichael fills a much-needed gap. The author, Lance Armstrong's coach for 14 years, insists he doesn't want readers to eat calories to specifically balance out the energy they expend. Rather, they'd do well to follow his in-depth program, which matches activity with food by periods, breaking the year into four big segments: foundation, preparation, specialization and transition. The amount of energy you burn changes as you go through weeks, months and a year of training, and eating the same basic number of calories all year results in over- and under-eating during certain months. It's a perfectly commonsense method, and Carmichael expounds upon it with charts and graphs that give facts on everything from sources of calcium to high-quality grains and cereals. Although the quantity of information can be dizzying, persistent and diligent elite athletes will come away from this book with plenty of ideas on how food can help them excel. neopro Fri, 22 Apr 2005 13:39:39 -0500 Profile Heart Rate Monitor http://www.extremefitness.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=142

by: neopro

Description: Achieve your weight management goals with unique technology. This isn't the byproduct of marketing puffery. Rather, they've earned every ounce of esteem thanks to the quality of their innovations. Because of Mavic, the rims and wheels we ride on are completely different and wholly superior to anything we might have previously imagined. While their accomplishments are too numerous to list, their most noteworthy breakthroughs have an easy familiarity to all of us. The SUP and UB Control technologies they pioneered in the early 90's gave a quantum boost to rim strength and brought us the glory of the machined braking surface. The Helium wheelset in the late 90's was the industry's first "climbing" wheelset, and they proved so durable that their unforgettable red anodized rims and hubshells are still a common sight on group rides today. The Cosmic Carbone was the first noteworthy aero wheelset, and in its current iteration is still the most widely used deep-dish wheel in the professional peloton. With the introduction of the Open Pro rim a few years ago, Mavic set a new standard for the strength and lightness we expect out of conventional box-section rims thanks to their Maxtal aluminum alloy composition. And with the unveiling of the original Ksyrium wheelset in 2001 Mavic brought together lightness, aerodynamics, and durability in a seemingly perfect blend unmatched by any other brand. When you purchase a set of Mavic wheels, you can rest assured that no other company has labored so intently to combine value and performance. While other brands certainly offer excellent options in their own right, more often than not the wheels you see are derivatives of products Mavic has already perfected. Mavic has long set the agenda for rims and wheels in the bicycle industry, and based on their 2004 offerings, they continue to lead the way. The Mavic Ksyrium SL SSC is the finest all-around wheelset money can buy. At 1500g for a set of clinchers, they are light by any standard. Their 25mm depth rim, bladed spokes, and low spoke count give it superior aerodynamics. The best part, though, is the assurance of absolute durability offered by the SL's. Even though the spokes are made from a featherlight Zircal super-aluminum alloy, we defy anyone to tell us of a situation of SL spoke breakage that occurred from anything short of a massive pile-up. If you're looking for a wheelset you can ride on every day of the week and still use for racing, the SL is the unequivocal choice. The SL has two major changes for 2004. First off, the color of the wheelset has changed. Gone are the black rims and spokes of the last two years, and in its place will be silver anodized rims and spokes. Many folks described the silver machined surfaces in between the spoke nipples on the black SL rim of 2003 as odd. The all-silver 2004 rim camouflages these machined sections on the rim, and in our estimation makes them look cleaner than ever. The other change for 2004 is in the front hub. Instead of the aluminum hub shell of previous years, it's a silver-painted carbon fiber composite shell, lightening the front wheel. What won’t be changing, though, is the extent to which you’ll see the SL used in the professional peloton. When the roads get especially rough and the hills get long, you'll see SL's all over the place. And keep in mind that no other wheel brand has technology like Mavic's UB Control and SUP treatments. You'll benefit from a perfectly machined braking surface and welded/machined rims, ensuring consistent and reliable day in and day out performance. The SL is available in clincher (1500g) and tubular (1480g). They have 18 spokes on the front, 20 spokes on the rear. The front spokes are radial, the rear spokes use Mavic’s Isopulse spoking concept, giving it superior stiffness and perfect spoke tension. They are available for both Shimano 8/9/10-speed drivetrains, as well as Campagnolo 9/10. They come standard with Mavic composite quick release skewers and a bearing adjustment tool. neopro Mon, 18 Apr 2005 16:05:52 -0500 2005 Thomson Elite Seatpost http://www.extremefitness.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=113

by: neopro

Description: A stupendously high-quality non-setback seatpost that sets the standard for saddle adjustability and overall precision. Introduced in 1999, it was the first aluminum racing frame made with carbon fiber seatstays. The main triangle and chainstays are built with Pinarello Extreme tubing -- a custom-drawn variation of Deda SC 61.10A, a breathtakingly light aluminum alloy with an unrivaled record for durability. The CRS carbon fiber wishbone seatstays absorb road shock at the rear of the bike much in the same fashion that a carbon fork absorbs shock at the front wheel. Since its introduction, Pinarello's CRS design has been imitated industry-wide, but no other manufacturer has had five years of experience to refine this ever-evolving design. The Prince was also the first frame to use the now-ubiquitous 1-1/8" integrated headset. Does the Prince deliver? ProCycling editor (and former Tour de France King of the Mountains) Robert Millar reviewed the bike in their October 2000 issue, finding that the CRS design excelled.... "....soaking up small bumps or major holes with an efficiency which is quite frankly astonishing. Whereas the steel-tubed Opera enjoyed a spring in its step with a lively feel to the machine, here the ride is smoother with a more damped sensation very similar to the aluminum Paris. Just as I thought (and hoped) it might, the Prince provides the best of both the two previous Pinarello bikes I have tested: the comfort and bump absorption of the Opera, with the directness of the Paris. If anything, the move to an oversized head tube and steerer gives even more sharpness to the front of the bike?.Every request from the bars is passed instantly to the front wheel but inversely the bumps and jolts of the road are softened just enough to take off the pain factor you sometimes get through the hands and wrists. It has to be a really big thump before you're awakened to the realities of just how bad the surface is below the wheels?" The Prince comes stock with the Pinarello Vola carbon fiber fork. It is 1-1/8" threadless, with a carbon fiber steerer tube. The steerer is reinforced with a carbon sleeve (rather than aluminum), to save additional weight. The Vola's rigid structure and oversized sleeve are designed to complement the Prince's integrated headset design, delivering the optimal combination of light weight, strength, and comfort. For 2004 the Prince is available in either Sirio Blue or Start Red . It is available in 1cm increments between 48cm-62cm. It includes a 1-1/8" Campagnolo Record Hiddenset and a Pinarello carbon fiber 31.0mm seatpost. neopro Mon, 18 Apr 2005 12:12:33 -0500 Dual http://www.extremefitness.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=95

by: neopro

Description: Looking for the world's ultimate climbing machine? Look no further than the De Rosa Dual. Its main triangle is made from the Dedacciai U-Dual tubing, weighing only a few grams more than the breathtakingly light UD frameset of 2002. But the Dual has strength and stiffness far exceeding the UD, plus a more forgiving carbon fiber rear triangle bonded to the main frame through Dedacciai's beefy Monobox chainstay/BB interface. You get more comfort than you would with a full-aluminum bike -- in fact, the thing that most Dual owners mention first is their surprise with its impressive smoothness on lousy roads -- but you don't suffer any weight penalty. The Dual tips the scales at a scant 1050 grams, easily allowing you to build up a sub-16 lb. project bike. This is the secret weapon you want to save for the climbing stages. The best part? De Rosa has rated this frame for riders weighing up to 210lbs. The Dual comes stock with a Mizuno MR20 Shark full carbon 1-1/8" fork.It is available in two beautiful metallic paint schemes: Arancio Gold and Rosso Red . It is available in 1cm increments between 54cm-58cm, and in sloping geometry in 45cm, 48cm, and 52cm. In sizes larger than 55cm (and in 52cm slope), the frame requires a 32.4mm seatpost. Other sizes require a 27.2cm seatpost. neopro Mon, 18 Apr 2005 12:09:09 -0500 2005 Merckx Race Frame http://www.extremefitness.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=94

by: neopro

Description: First introduced in 2003, the Race is a modified and improved version of Merckx's popular Fuga frameset. The main triangle is still made from a specially-drawn, extra-light, butted aluminum tubing from Easton named "Race 7000" -- a lighter version of the Easton Ultralight 7005 used in the Fuga in 2002. It comes with a slimmer, stiffer carbon seatstay than the Fuga. It weighs only a touch above 3lbs. The Race gives you the benefits of oversized aluminum tubing with superior stiffness in comparison to countless other aluminum offerings. The carbon seatstay absorbs a good measure of road shock to help keep fatigue at bay during long rides, and you get legendary Merckx frame geometry. The race is available in Blue/Black and Red/Black. We also have the 2003 Silver/Black version of the Race on sale in our "Specials" section. It comes with an Eddy Merckx carbon fiber fork. It is available in 2cm increments between 48cm-62cm and five sloping sizes. Monocoque means no flex, no whippiness, no softness. Every watt of power you put into the pedals is rewarded. The only downside, of course, is that every ride isn't a race or an interval session. In fact, we'll go months at a time without turning a pedal in anger. We love the sheer pleasure of being outdoors on a bike, and the joy of an easy small-ring spin is close to our hearts. This is the sort of riding in which the muscularity of a monocoque bike can be a bit much. How might a frame manufacturer deal with this paradox -- most riders want super-stiffness in the summer, but silky smoothness in the winter? How can you load a bike up with qualities from one end of the spectrum without giving the other end the short shrift? Eddy Merckx has the answer. In fact he has multiple answers. With his 25th Anniversary Carbon AXM Merckx makes extensive use of titanium mesh in the carbon lay-up to give the frame a healthy dose of Ti's inherent shock absorbency. On the new-for-2005 Carbon 3XM he answers the riddle in a different fashion. With the 3XM Merckx gives you ample stiffness through the use of a monocoque carbon front triangle. The headtube and top tube of the 3XM utilize extensive flaring, shaping, and oversizing clearly intended to increase its resistance to front-end flex. Instead of sticking with a similar sort of monocoque rear triangle like you get on the AXM and MXM, though, the 3XM has a bonded-on full-carbon rear triangle. Compare the seatstay to what you see on the AXM and the 3XM. It's noticeably slimmer. giving the rear of the bike a calmness on rough roads a bit mellower than the calculated stiffness of a full-monocoque frame. The 3XM is a sweet balance of stiff-and-smooth, an ideal combination for the varying needs many of us have for our bikes over the course of the year. The Carbon 3XM is available in Clear Carbon with Silver decals. It's available in 5 sloping sizes between 41cm and 53cm. It comes with an Easton full carbon fiber fork and an Eddy Merckx 29.4mm carbon fiber seatpost. It requires a 1-1/8" integrated headset, an Italian bottom bracket, and a 35.0mm front derailleur. neopro Mon, 18 Apr 2005 11:45:56 -0500 2005 Merckx Carbon 3XM http://www.extremefitness.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=92

by: neopro

Description: If you've ever been lucky enough to do some hard riding on a monocoque carbon bike, you understand what a performance advantage it is to have a machine so single-mindedly designed to give you jet-like propulsion with every pedal stroke. It features a main frame of breathtakingly light Easton SC7000 Scandium metal matrix tubing for superb shock absorption. It weighs in at less than 2.5 pounds. Scandium is well known for being the most forgiving aluminum alloy ever manufactured. Merckx makes it even more magical (and durable) by oversizing the tubes to impressive diameters. This combination of a shock-absorbing alloy with hefty tubing diameters makes the SC a wonder to ride. You might recall the dominance of Peter van Petegem when he won both the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix on his Lotto-Domo Team SC in an 8-day span in 2003 -- the first time in 23 years anyone has accomplished such a double. Johan Museeuw crushed the field in his solo breakaway victory in 2002 at Paris-Roubaix on his Team Domo-edition Team SC. It punctuated two huge landmarks in 2001 for the Team SC -- the 1-2-3 finish for Team Domo in the 2001 Paris-Roubaix, and the legendary performance of Team Domo's Richard Virenque in the Paris-Tours World Cup race in October, 2001. He was victorious in a 243km breakaway, in what was essentially a 7-hour time trial. The Team SC has more a race pedigree than any other frame we sell, irrespective of brand. If you want a frame that symbolizes the beauty and the romance of top-flight Euro-dog road racing, the Team SC is for you. The Team SC has been our single best-selling aluminum alloy frame for the last three years. Why? Rather than waxing poetic myself, let me quote the former World Champion, Hour Record holder, and wearer of the Maillot Jaune Chris Boardman. In his capacity as test pilot for Pro Cycling magazine, he reviewed the Team SC in their September 2003 issue and wrote... "....its overall robustness leads me to suspect it will last longer than its rider. It could probably survive a nuclear blast, or the non-fission equivalent, Paris-Roubaix..... The handling was as good as any bike I have ridden, perfectly neutral, and even sitting up to put a cape over the top of the climb at low speeds was no problem. On the descent the handling continued to be near-perfect, bringing back memories of my first pro bike with GAN, another Merckx, which also handled like this one. I was perfectly in control on the most taxing Alpine descent and would have been happy to ride this bike across the roughest of cobbled roads (which I suspect was its intended target terrain). The substantial design also gave a solid feel with little in the way of flex evident. The bike didn't feel as if it would bounce over rough ground, rather it would plough through it!" When comparing the Team SC to other bikes, take a good long look at the tubesets of the bikes you're comparing it to. The Merckx is made from a Scandium alloy, as indicated by its SC7000 tubing designation. We often get requests to compare the ride of the Team SC to bikes made from Dedacciai SC61.10a tubing. People look at the "SC" there and assume that Dedacciai is manufacturing Scandium tubesets not unlike Easton's. In fact, SC61.10a is not Scandium. Rather, it's a lightweight aluminum alloy containing not one whit of Scandium. It's a perfectly good tubeset, and we sell lots of bikes that use it. But no alloy tubing provides the same silky ride on rough roads as true Scandium. There's a difference, and you'll notice it on your first ride! One other note -- in previous versions of the Team SC, Merckx built the bikes with "carbon-wrapped" chainstays. The carbon had little structural bearing on the bike, and it didn't do much to the ride quality of the bike either. It was mostly done for cosmetic reasons, and halfway through the 2004 season Merckx made the decision to do away with the carbon wrap. As such, you'll see nothing but full-SC7000 chainstays on a new Team SC. The Team SC will be available in the Red, White, and Blue colors of Lotto-Domo, and in Orange/Blue. It requires a 1-1/8" Campagnolo Record Hiddenset and comes standard with a full carbon Easton carbon fiber fork. It is available in 1cm increments between 48cm-62cm. It is also available in 5 sloping sizes. It requires a 31.6mm seatpost. neopro Mon, 18 Apr 2005 11:43:15 -0500
